The rapid advancement of computing technologies, including artificial intelligence, is profoundly changing the way we work and create new value. Generative AI, in particular, is fundamentally transforming how software itself is developed. Computer science is no longer merely the foundational technology of a single industry; rather, it is becoming a core discipline that drives innovation across virtually every field of study and sector of industry.  

This shift also poses new challenges for computer science education. In an age where AI writes code and assists in solving a wide range of problems, the ability to make effective use of new technologies and tools certainly matters. Yet what matters even more is the ability to understand and define problems precisely, to grasp and design the operating principles of systems, and to independently evaluate and verify the results that are produced.

The Department of Computer Science at Hanyang University is responding to these changes by actively incorporating new technologies into its curriculum. At the same time, we ensure that our students build a solid foundation in computer science and study a broad range of specialized areas, so that they develop the capacity to solve problems on their own and respond proactively to a fast-changing technological landscape. Through a variety of projects, students also gain experience applying what they have learned to real-world problems, collaborating with others, and devising new solutions.

Technology will continue to advance even faster than it does today, and the specific technologies or tools learned at university alone will not be enough to solve the problems of a lifetime. Our department therefore aims to educate students not simply to master today's technologies, but to grow into computer science professionals who can learn and apply new technologies on their own, and who can identify and solve new problems amid constant change.
